Finding the “Gold” in Video

Feb 3, 2020 | 0 comments

Using video as part of a digital marketing strategy is not new. But, today’s Web makes video even more valuable than in the past—and it will likely stay that way for the next decade.

Video is a great way to demonstrate a product and to tell a story that represents a company’s brand in a unique, compelling way. Here are some numbers to consider:

  • 68% of potential customers identify a short video as the way they most prefer to learn about a product or service. Text-based information on a website or in an article was chosen by only 15% of those polled.
  • 52% of consumers say that product videos make them more confident about making an online purchase.
  • If you are engaged in b-to-b marketing, video is also powerful. 65% of executives reported visiting a company’s website after viewing a video.
  • 70% of consumers say they have shared a company’s video on social media.

That last stat brings out one of the most important aspects of video. A video that is memorable and compelling in some respect may “go viral.” That allows the video to not only reach more people, but it also means that as it is shared, it is received by others as having the stamp of approval from the person who shared it.

Today, there are many ways to share a video. Videos can be uploaded to YouTube and Vimeo. There are also many ways to both create and share videos—for example using Facebook Live or Instagram. Yet another alternative is to use your phone to record a personalized message that can be shared on your website, on social media sites, through email, or even in a text. Today’s cell phone cameras are pretty awesome, and if you make sure the lighting is good, your homemade videos will look great on computer and mobile phone screens.

Here is another benefit derived from video—better search engine rankings. Google likes video. Google knows that video is a compelling, interactive element on a webpage, so webpages with video get a rankings boost. Plus, videos can be optimized for the search engines using several SEO techniques. So, if a picture is worth 1000 words, a video is worth even more!
